Associated Medical Problems

  • It is not possible to predict the problems your baby might have or how severe they will be.
  • About half of the babies born with Down’s syndrome have a heart problem (ref 9, 10). Often the heart problem needs an operation.
  • Some medical problems can occur more commonly:

- Vision problems;
- Chest and sinus problems;
- Feeding difficulties/ gastrointestinal problems;
- Hearing problems;
- Leukaemia;
- Epilepsy;
- Thyroid problems;
- Diabetes.
