Conditions That Won’t be Detected
Some chromosome changes are too small to be detected by the PCR or karyotype tests:
- Changes in single genes, such as cystic fibrosis.
If you have a family history of an inherited disorder that is caused by an alteration in a single gene (such as cystic fibrosis), you may be offered a specific test. - Microdeletions (loss of small segments of chromosomes).
- Other small changes in chromosomes.
- The way your baby is growing physically is not shown by those tests.
A normal PCR or karyotype result cannot guarantee a healthy baby
