Edwards’ Syndrome (Trisomy 18)
- It is a rare and severe chromosome disorder.
- Babies with Edwards’ syndrome have severe anomalies and learning disabilities.
- It occurs in about 1 in 3,000 births and becomes more common with maternal age.
- Between 2 and 3 out of a 100 babies (2 to 3%) with Edwards’ syndrome survive to term.
- If born alive, around 10 out of 100 babies (10%) with Edwards’ syndrome survive for several months.
- There is no cure, even if the condition is diagnosed before the baby is born
