Other Conditions

The results of the chromosome tests (PCR and karyotype test) can detect other chromosome problems as well as Down’s syndrome:

• Edwards’ syndrome or trisomy 18
• Patau’s syndrome or trisomy 13
• Other chromosome changes

These chromosome problems are less common than Down’s syndrome. Some are severe and can cause early death.
