Patau’s Syndrome (Trisomy 13)
- It is a rare and severe chromosome disorder.
- Babies with Patau’s syndrome have severe anomalies and learning disabilities.
- It occurs in about 1 in 4,000 to 10,000 births and becomes more common with maternal age.
- About 72 out of 100 babies (72%) with Patau’s syndrome die in the first year of life.
- There is no cure, even if the condition is diagnosed before the baby is born.
