Understanding Your Result
The result of the screening test for Down’s syndrome gives you your individual chance of having a baby with Down’s syndrome.
Remember that the lower the number, the higher the chance.
Here are some examples:
-
A result of 1 in 50 (2%) means there is one chance that your baby has Down’s syndrome and 49 chances that it does not have Down’s syndrome.
-
A result of 1 in 450 (0.2%) means that you have less chance of having a baby with Down’s syndrome. That is, one chance that your baby has Down’s syndrome and 449 chances that the baby does not have Down’s syndrome.
